About me

I got to my heaviest right before I got pregnant with my daughter Annalisa, in June of 2010 I was 307lbs. OUCH! During my pregnancy I managed to maintain my weight and I was the exact same weight at 39weeks pregnant in February 2011. Post pregnancy I was automatically down some, but I bounced around until September 13th 2011.

My wonderful staff (and fabulous friend) Crystal and I had been talking since June about using our "quiet time" to take turns doing something active. Each week one of us would have an excuse why we wouldn't start and each week we would decide that we would start next week. Crystal had more motivation that I, because she ended up starting in August. I kept stalling, making excuses, and then feeling crappy for doing it.

On September 13 2011, that all changed. Crystal looked at me that day and said "Ok, are you going first or am I?". Talk about an assumptive close! I laughed and then decided that I would start that day. No more excuses. I'm not sure what else changed there to get me motivated, maybe knowing I actually had someone who would hold me accountable after seeing me self-sabotage so many times.

So I started actually using the MyFitnessPal app I downloaded back in March. I decided that I would no longer make excuses or lie to myself. Everything that I ate would get logged, the good, the bad and the UGLY. I was going to be honest with myself, because the only person I had been cheating... was ME.

I am not following a special "diet" plan. I have a calorie limit that fluctuates with my exercise. Its like a budget. I have "X" amount of calories for the day, and I have to plan ahead how I want to spend them. I try to go for mostly high protein, high fibre, low fat, low sugar options. I usually have at least one "treat" a day. If I am going out for a special occasion I may exercise more to earn extra calories, eat lower calories throughout the day to save up, or allow myself to go up to my maintenance calorie limit without guilt.

I started off walking, but quickly took on the challenge of starting the Couch to 5K app on my phone. Then I added in my Turbo Jam DVDs which I dug out of boxes in the garage. I work out 5-6 days per week right now, sometimes twice a day (Maybe Turbo in the morning and a walk at quiet time, or in the evening). I have realised that if I want this bad enough I have to make the time. Sometimes I wake up early, sometimes I miss my favourite shows, sometimes I pack up both babies and take them out with me. I can now run 5k in 39 minutes, which is not fast, but its a start!

In the New year I hope to continue with my fitness journey by trying new DVD programs (30 Day Shred, Turbo Fire, Chalene Extreme, P90x) all while continuing on with my running. I absolutely LOVE running and great aspirations for it.
